Dave July Hunt 2019
He gave us a few seconds and Taite made a brilliant shot !
The last 10 days were challenging and very exciting all at once. We had a father and his 2 children hunt with us.
Each hunter had their specific animals they wanted to hunt. First up was Taite, we spotted Kudus far in the distance near the top of a valley. With plenty of animals ahead of us we had to go slowly to try bumping into anything while stalking the kudu. When we got into shooting range the big bull was following the females, he gave us a few seconds and Taite made a brilliant shot!
Schaylee had a great stalk on a bachelor group of Wildebeest Bulls, They were not aware of us being around 100 yards away. Shooting a 300 win mag, Schaylee made a great shot on the shoulder and the bull dropped.
That afternoon was very successful with Taite shooting a Black Wildebeest and Dave taking his first African animal, a big Kudu Bull. This shot of Dave’s was a bit of challenge as the sun was setting but luckily the bull gave us just the right amount of time to get a great shot in.
One of Dave’s top list animal to hunt while in Africa was a Gemsbuck (Oryx). When spooked gemsbuck run straight for the big mountains to where there is little to no access to find them or retrieve them. We spotted 2 bulls in the distance and at this stage it looked like it could be a 300 yard shot. After a few attempts the bull was down and the number one was in the salt. Schaylees main animal was a Red Hartebeest, hunting in the Karoo there are a lot of hills and big mountains. Wind was blowing so we decided to take a long walk to where we thought it may be a bit secluded from the wind. In this specific “bak” there was a big herd of Black Wildebeest and a lone Red Hartebeest Bull. He was lying down and after about an hour we tried to make a plan. Schaylee shot and the bull ran a short distance giving her time to make a second shot. Bull was down.
Taite had a stalk on a Common Springbuck and he made a brilliant shot. Schalyee also shot a great Common Springbuck. The last animal hunted while at our Karoo Concession was the Waterbuck. After a long stalk through a river bed Dave got in range for a huge Waterbuck Bull. Also shooting the 300 win mag the bull dropped.
On the 5th day we moved to our Coastal Concession. Animals on the list was Bushbuck, Blesbuck, Warthog, Impala, Zebra, Nyala and Baboon. Hunting the Coast is deemed to be more challenging than the Karoo however on this hunt it was the complete opposite. After a few attempts and some amazing shots we hunted all the above mentioned animals. The Nyala Bull had only been seen a few times this year and we were specifically looking for this bull. At sunset the bull walked out into an opening on our way back to the lodge and with only a day or 2 left of the safari Dave decided he will give him a go. Made a great shot and the illusive bull was in the salt.
One of the days along the coast was rainy drizzling weather, Dave had enquired about going to the Addo National Elephant Park when he booked his safari with us so it was decided that this bad weather day along the coast would be ideal. When arrived at Addo it was drizzling a little bit but we saw plenty of elephants and plains game.
We had a great 10 days with Dave, Schaylee and Taite. Looking forward to hunting with you again in the future.
