April Hunt 2019

‘This was a very lucky hunt as you don’t often get to see Bushpig’s during the day time let alone able to stalk and hunt one in daylight!

When we got to the lodge, we unpacked and shot the rifle to make sure all is good.

We then went to a lookout to see what is out and about. As we got there we saw Bushpigs far in the distance at a water hole in the river. There were 3 of them and they were going in and out of the pool fetching Lilly pads and eating them on the side. So we re-positioned and started walking up the river to that pool of water. The river is almost dried up due to a drought that we are having, so there are only water pools left in the river.

It took us a good while to get there but when we got to the specific pool the Bushpigs were still lying half in the water. We quickly got set up, a shot was made and the big boar just tipped over into the water.

This was a very lucky hunt as you don’t often get to see Bushpigs during the day time let alone able to stalk one and hunt it in daylight.

This was a great start to our 10 day hunt!

Next on the list was Warthog, Common Duiker, Bushbuck and Zebra. While out hunting Warthog we had a few options to make, a trophy warthog or a cull warthog… Decision was made to shoot the cull warthog and he was down. Later that afternoon we stalked and hunted Zebra. Zebra have a good eyesight and one needs to stalk quietly and cleverly to get close to them. We got into a great position and a beautiful zebra was taken. Common Duiker were being elusive on this hunt unfortunately.

We ended off with a great stalk on a Bushbuck. Afterwards we came back to a fire on a lookout. Nothing beats finishing off a good hunting day with a big fire and a drink.

We spent a day at Addo National Park and we were very lucky as we saw plenty. We saw Buffalo, Lion and a few groups of Elephant totaling to about 100 at one waterhole. We had a lot of fun.
